Across 2 days, you will learn to work with advanced FME functionality including custom transformers, dynamic translations, performance tuning and complex attribute handling. The course is built around practical, problem-solving exercises tailored to real-world workflows.

Course Schedule

Session 1: Welcome, FME Overview & User Parameters
Course introduction and FME version setup

Introduction to parameters; what they are, types of parameters, linking user parameters to FME parameters, shared, published and private parameters, embedded and scripted parameters, and attribute name parameters.

Session 2: Performance Considerations & Custom Transformers
Defining and measuring performance. 64-bit FME, log file interpretation, reader and writer optimisation, transformation optimisation, database optimisation and parallel processing.

Introduction to custom transformers; creating, editing, schema handling, versioning, loops and parallel processing with custom transformers.

Session 3: Advanced Readers, Writers & Attribute Handling
Zip file handling, fanouts, the Generic Reader and Writer, dynamic translations, schema handling in dynamic translations, and advanced dynamic attribute schemas. Advanced attribute handling; constructing values, conditional attribute values, multiple feature attributes and null attributes.

Session 4: Practical Exercises & Problem Solving
Hands-on applied exercises covering the full course curriculum. Topics include: simplifying workspaces with user parameters, deconstructing a log file, performance tuning FME, parallel processing, creating and using custom transformers, using fanouts, writing data generically and dynamically, and handling complex attributes.
